Garthdee Community Council Recent Updates
NEWLY ELECTED COMMUNITY COUNCIL
We are delighted that Garthdee community council is not only at full strength following the elections in October, that we have several new members, but that we have also attracted local residents as associate members to make us event stronger! This is exciting times are we look to represent our community, stand up for local issues, and overall make Garthdee a better place to live, work, learn and socialise for all.
Welcome on board everyone!
OUR POSITION ON THE PROPOSED DEVELOPMENT AT AUCHINYELL ROAD- HOUSING
Garthdee community council agreed at the December meeting to formally oppose any housing development on the site opposite the new student flats on Auchinyell Road, at the junction with Garthdee Road. We strongly believe that this space must be retained for the benefit of the community as an open green space while there are significant additional problems with any housing on that site, which also has important knock on effects to our local infrastructure- especially given the proposal for additional housing on the site of the former bowling club.
CARS PARKED ON PAVEMENTS
While it may not be strictly illegal at this stage, Garthdee community council opposes the act of parking on pavements in our community due to the obstruction this is causes for our children, parents, elderly and those with disabilities. We STRONGLY URGE residents to refrain from parking on the pavements, even if it does mean walking a little further to get to your home. Lets respect the needs of those less able and for safety reasons too.
COMMUNITY NEWS BOOKLET
We are in the middle of planning the next community newsletter which will be distributed around every door in the community. We hope to gain sponsorship for the new booklet which will also be promoted online, so look out for news updates on this matter and if you are a local service, business or organisation get in touch with us ASAP with your details for inclusion. Watch this space.....
CHRISTMAS 2019.....LIGHTS? SANTAS GROTTO?
The community council is looking into the possibility of having our very own Christmas lights for the community or alternatively a santas grotto, display or some kind of celebration event each year. More to follow soon!
GARTHDEE PARISH CHURCH
Garthdee community council continues to oppose the closure and destruction of the perfectly good Garthdee church. We strongly believe that such a move would be a grossly unfair and destructive decision by the church of Scotland, while it also represents a gross failure by the Church of Scotland to recognise the potential, opportunity, their own misgivings, and needs of the local people. We call on the Church of Scotland to think again and not to knock that building down!
HOUSING DEVELOPMENT PROPOSED AT THE SITE OF THE FORMER BOWLING CLUB
Garthdee community council will be making a decision at our January meeting to decide our position on the proposed development for this site, which is muted for council housing.

BAG IT AND BIN IT
DESPITE a big campaign in 2018 with the community and local children to convince adults to bag it and bin it, we have faced an even bigger problem in Garthdee with dogs mess all over pretty much every street. This is wholly unacceptable and a massive blight on our community. Garthdee community council calls on the entire community to work together to educate and promote widely the refusal to accept that this is ok. Our community is a great place to live, but enough is enough with this complete lack of respect for the place we live in. It's a small minority of offenders, but they are creating a significant problem. ENOUGH IS ENOUGH......lets get them reported Garthdee! |
